S.D. Beef Council Meets March 7

President Invites Producers to Attend

PIERRE—(February 27, 2005)—Directors of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) will be meeting for the organization’s quarterly meeting Tuesday, March 7 at the Holiday Inn Express in Fort Pierre.

Business at the meeting, which begins at 10 a.m., will include an audit report and fine-tuning of the budget for the coming year. SDBIC President Roger Gerdes says directors will also be reviewing and updating the policy manual for the organization which collects and administers the $1-per-head beef checkoff in South Dakota .

“I invite and encourage beef producers to attend the meeting,” says Gerdes, a Miller, S.D. rancher. “Participating in the meetings can help producers get a more complete understanding of the checkoff program and how the beef council operates. 

Other items on the agenda include: discussion of proposed promotion and  research projects; a report on the Beef 20/20 program held at South Dakota State University ; and an update of the activities of Amanda Nolz, 2005 National Beef Ambassador from Mitchell.

The SDBIC is comprised of representatives from eight agricultural organizations: S.D. Beef Breeds Council, S.D. Cattlemen’s Association, S.D. Cattlemen’s Auxiliary, S.D. CattleWomen, S.D. Farm Bureau, S.D. Farmers Union, S.D. Livestock Market Association, and S.D. Stockgrowers Association.
