Checkoff Message to Highlight Beef Council Meeting

PIERRE (June 11, 2007)—Beef producers will have a full slate of business as they meet for the quarterly meeting of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) June 27.

Committee meetings begin at 10 a.m. at the Ramkota River Center in Pierre . The board meeting is scheduled to start with an 11:30 a.m. luncheon featuring Paula Waggoner, Director of Federation Relations for NCBA. Wagner will update attendees on the Beef Checkoff program.

The SDBIC Promotion Committee will report on its 2007 planning session, while the Research Committee will present an update on current research projects funded with checkoff dollars. The SDBIC Prime Promoter Committee will meet that same day to select the 2007 Prime Promoter award recipients.

South Dakota beef producers are invited to attend the meeting. Producers wishing to attend the luncheon are asked to call the SDBIC office at 605-224-4722 by June 25 to enable SDBIC to have an accurate count and to receive the price of the luncheon.

The SDBIC collects and administers the $1 Beef Checkoff on cattle sold in South Dakota . Checkoff dollars are utilized strictly for promotion, education or research programs. Fifty cents of every dollar is directed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board for programs on the national level. The SDBIC retains 50 cents, which is invested in additional national programs or in-state programs.

The SDBIC is comprised of three representatives from eight agricultural organizations: SD Beef Breeds Council, SD Cattlemen’s Association, SD Cattlemen’s Auxiliary, SD CattleWomen, SD Farm Bureau Federation, SD Farmers Union, SD Livestock Auction Market Association, and SD Stockgrowers Association.
