Beef Cookbook Presented to AgriTalk’s Mike Adams

PIERRE (June 20, 2006)—South Dakota’s beef producers presented the host of the nationally syndicated AgriTalk program a copy of The Healthy Beef Cookbook during his recent broadcast from Pierre.

Roger Gerdes, president of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) gave a copy of the 282-page, four-color collection of lean beef recipes to Mike Adams, the voice of AgriTalk. Adams was in the state’s capital city celebrating both the history of Pierre and the 90th birthday of its affiliate radio station KGFX. Gerdes also presented KGFX Farm Director Del Fisher with a copy of the cookbook, put out late last year by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the American Dietetic Association. The SDBIC helped sponsor KGFX’s special birthday broadcast with checkoff-funded advertisements for beef.

The Healthy Beef Cookbook is an especially good gift to present right now, says Gerdes, since it contains an entire chapter on grilling recipes for the summer. The cookbook is available in bookstores nationwide. You can also order the cookbook online through a link to the SDBIC Web site at www.sdbeef.org.

The SDBIC collects the $1-per-head beef checkoff in South Dakota and can retain up to 50 cents for state promotion, research and educational programs. The organization, comprised of eight agricultural groups, forwards the remaining monies to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board for national programs.
