Prime Promoter of Beef Nominations Due June 1

PIERRE (May 11, 2007)—Do you know a business, organization, or individual who does an extraordinary job when it comes to promoting one of South Dakota’s top products: beef? If so, now is the time to nominate them as a Prime Promoter of Beef.

Each year, the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) accepts nominations for its annual Prime Promoter Award. Nominations are reviewed by the SDBIC Prime Promoter Committee, and winners are honored during the SDBIC’s annual meeting in the fall.

Examples of nominees might be restaurants whose owners excel at preparation and promotion of beef entrees, retailers who do an exceptional job of cutting, displaying and moving beef products, or individuals who do their part in promoting beef or the beef industry. When selecting Prime Promoters, the Prime Promoter Committee reviews all submitted nominations and, depending on the category, looks at details such as poundage of beef sold in a year by a nominee, use of beef certificates or South Dakota Beef Bucks, involvement in beef promotion or beef educational activities.

Last year’s Prime Promoters of Beef were the Tailgate Restaurant of Huron and Neal Ruhd, cattle producer and beef promoter from Clear Lake , S.D.

Nomination applications, which are due to the SDBIC office by June 1, include a nomination form and letters of support. For more information, or to receive an application form, contact the SDBIC office at 605-224-4722, or print an application form and instructions off the Web site at www.sdbeef.org. The SDBIC collects the $1-per-head beef checkoff on cattle sold in South Dakota . Checkoff dollars are utilized strictly for promotion, education or research programs. At least 50 cents of every dollar is directed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board for programs on the national level. The SDBIC can retain up to one-half for in-state programs.
