SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef processor celebrates 10 years of business

PIERRE , S.D.- Shorty’s Locker of Mitchell will hold its 10^th anniversary celebration on Friday, May 11, 2007. The event will be held at the business located at 1500 E. Havens Street .

Shorty’s Locker, which was one of the first licensed processors to carry SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef, will offer a $3 lunch special which includes a SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef sandwich, salads, cookie and drink. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature a live remote radio broadcast by KMIT. A special 10% anniversary discount will be offered on all retail purchases made during the celebration.

“Shorty’s Locker has been a leader in helping promote the SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef program,” said Richard Benda, secretary, South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development. “By partnering with quality companies like Shorty’s, we have been able to grow this program. We’re optimistic that our continued partnership will help grow it even more,” he said.

Consumer interest in SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef continues to rise. There are currently 32 retail establishments and restaurants in South Dakota that carry SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef. 

“When I started the locker 10 years ago I had only a handful of custom clients,” said Nowell Hofer, owner of Shorty’s Locker. “It’s grown every year since and last year we processed more than 1,500 orders for area customers,” he said.

Hofer said participating the SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef program has been a good decision. “SOUTH DAKOTA CERTIFIED™ Beef is a good program. It assures the customers that their beef is from a wholesome source in South Dakota ,” he said.
