S.D. Beef Council Meeting November 21

PIERRE—(November 7, 2005)—The South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) board of directors will be holding their regular quarterly meeting Monday, November 21 in Pierre.

The meeting, beginning at 1 p.m., will be held at the South Dakota Visitor’s Center in Pierre at 600 E. Capitol Ave. The Center is located on the north east side of the state capitol building. Prior to the meeting, directors will be touring the new SDBIC office at 316 South Coteau Street in Pierre . The SDBIC moved to the office space in October.

The SDBIC board is comprised of representatives from eight agricultural organizations. The directors are responsible for collecting the $1 beef checkoff on all cattle sold in South Dakota , and for distributing those funds. Checkoff dollars can only be used for promotional, educational or research programs. At least 50 cents of every dollar is sent to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) for national programs, while the other half can be utilized for in-state programs.

The organizations represented on the SDBIC board are: SD Beef Breeds Council, SD Cattlemen’s Association, SD Cattlemen’s Auxiliary, SD CattleWomen, SD Farm Bureau Federation, SD Farmers Union, SD Livestock Marketing Association, and SD Stockgrowers Association.
