PIERRE, SD - Beef. It’s what’s for dinner. It’s also the featured food at this week’s Watertown Public Opinion Premier Cooking Event. The 6th annual extravaganza Fri. Dec. 2 features celebrity Chef Jon Ashton, who is cooking up a lot of fun with his fantastic beef recipes.
“I am particularly pleased that the South Dakota Beef Industry Council is partnering with the Public Opinion as a premier sponsor for the show,” said Ashton. “My focus throughout the event will be on fine dining techniques that feature beef – America’s favorite and most traditional meat.”
The event typically boasts hundreds of attendees, and offers opportunities to reach out to consumers far beyond the event itself, according to South Dakota Beef Industry Council Executive director Suzy Geppert. She says the board of directors saw the cooking show as an excellent opportunity to educate and promote beef during this prime holiday purchasing season.
“The upcoming Premiere Cooking Event is a prime example of a place to promote our product that also incorporates some fantastic and fun education for consumers,” said Suzy Geppert, Executive Director, South Dakota Beef Industry Council. “Chef Jon Ashton will showcase some wonderful beef recipes that anyone can make at home, are perfect for the holiday season, and we’re going to have a great time in the process.”
The SDBIC will also have several roast recipes on hand for attendees to take to help make their holiday season meals memorable, as well as educational handouts with additional tips for oven roasting beef, to help people take the guesswork out of meal preparation.
In addition to the cooking event, Chef Jon will visit with cattle producers over lunch at the South Dakota Cattleman’s Convention Thursday, as well as participate in a healthy cooking demonstration at a local elementary school. Youth education is a key component of the SDBIC’s programming and education.
“It’s important for kids to incorporate high-quality protein like lean beef into their diet. Studies show that for kids and adults, it helps maintain a healthy body weight, supports growth, repair and maintenance of body tissues, helps physical performance and makes us feel full.”
