Charlie Totton, an active Team BEEF member from Chamberlain, SD proudly wears his Team BEEF South Dakota jersey in various events throughout the season. This Master of Beef Advocacy program graduate provides multiple community education events and media interviews promoting beef throughout the year.

The Prime Cuts Program is an optional Team BEEF SD activity that rewards and creates incentives for the most active, loyal, and passionate Team BEEF SD members.  It recognizes them for going above and beyond team requirements by sharing their passion and striving to learn more about beef.

“I think Team BEEF is just a great way to promote beef, and anytime you can promote something you raise is a good thing”, says the 2018 Prime Cuts program winner.

When asked about his favorite race, the Black Hills Veteran’s March, Totton states, “To me, this race is not about winning it’s about standing in solidarity with your veterans or showing the veterans and the active military you appreciate them”.  According to Totton, winning is not all that important, it’s about doing your best, finishing, honoring, and promoting something you are passionate about.

One of Totton’s favorite parts of promoting Team BEEF is that people remember BEEF! Totton’s wife helps out at rest stop 5 during the Black Hills Veteran’s March where they hand out beef chislic and mountain oysters. “People remember us from rest stop 5 because we give away beef in addition to the typical fruit and drinks that all the other stops do”, states Totton.

This recognition is enhanced with a Totton Angus sign proudly displayed on his truck. “On our way home from the marathon attendees will see my Totton Angus truck and will roll down their windows and honk and wave because they remember us from rest stop 5. “It’s exciting that people remember you because they like beef, and although I didn’t win the marathon,  they did appreciate the beef at rest stop 5!” states Totton.
